Read it once without rewriting
Export the draft or open it in read mode. Mark moments that still feel alive, places where attention drifts and questions you cannot answer. Do not start fixing page one before you know what the whole script has become.
Ask why you are returning now
Do you still care about the central relationship? Has someone requested it? Have you learned the skill the project needed? Or are you returning because a familiar struggle feels safer than a new blank page?
No answer is automatically wrong. It simply tells you what the project is being asked to do.
Use the distance you have earned
Map the scenes or beats as they exist. Write a fresh paragraph describing the film you believe it is now. Compare that with the draft. The gap gives the rewrite direction.
Do not preserve a weak choice merely because an earlier version of you worked hard on it.
Run a limited test
Choose one sequence and rewrite it according to the new understanding. Keep the original safe. If the work creates energy and clarifies the rest, continue. If it feels like archaeology with no living discovery, you may have your answer.
Reopen a duplicate
Import or duplicate the old draft in ForgePad, preserve the original and begin with questions instead of edits.
